Obama’s 2016 Budget Includes Less Funding on War on Drugs

This week, Obama released his budget plan for 2016. The plan has cut the funding by more than $50 million, with an extra $27 million being redirected to prevention and enforcement. This indicates a shift more towards a criminal matter to a public health issue. Although Obama is still continuing to fund the drug war, it is going to be shifted towards treatment, prevention, and enforcement. Obama also has shown support for D.C.’s retail cannabis program.
