Vaporizing: Cartridges vs Concentrates

dank-tanks-review-4

When it comes to vaporizing, you’ve got a lot of options, especially when it comes to portable vaporizer pens.

There are two basic types of vape pens:

  • Pens with cartridges that are discarded and replaced with new, pre-filled cartridges
  • Pens will re-fillable chambers that can be loaded with the concentrates of your choice

What’s the difference?

Vape pens that use cartridges are basically a battery base that can be used with a variety of cartridges pre-filled with an oil extract. In addition to the vape pen itself, you will need to buy either a pre-filled cartridge, or an oil extract to refill your cartridge with (the Liquid Gold Vape Pen, for example, comes with a re-fillable chamber, so you simply put new oil inside when it gets low instead of purchasing a whole new cartridge). The most common type of vape pen battery is compatible with a wide range of pre-filled cartridges – look for a pen with a 510 thread battery (like the TetraLabs Gold Pen and the O.Pen Vape), which will make it easier to shop for refills.

Vape pens that use concentrates are typically made up of a battery and a removable chamber, with a bowl that can be filled with whatever materials you prefer – oil, wax, shatter, budder, or hash. In addition to the vape pen itself, you will need to buy concentrates – these are widely available and we recommend you try out different kinds to find your favorite!

Greenly carries pre-filled cartridges that are cross-compatible across different brands of vaporizer pens, as well as high quality oils and concentrates. Browse our oils, concentrates, and cartridges here.
